John Lumley (later Lumley-Savile), 8th Earl of Scarborough (1788-1856). Member of Parliament (Whig) for Nottinghamshire, 1826-32, and for North Nottinghamshire, 1832-35; assumed the name of Savile after that of Lumley by Royal Licence, 1836; Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, 1839-56; he left Rufford Abbey, Co. Nottingham, and Thornhill, Co. Yorkshire (the Savile estates) to his illegitimate sons successively, the eldest of whom was created Baron Savile in 1888.
