Sapper Stanley James Herbert Cole, 1 Field Company, Australian Engineers, embarked from Sydney on 2 December 1916 aboard H.M.A.T. Orsova. He was killed on 4 October 1917, aged 24 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of James David and Edith Bertha Cole of 41A Rathfern Road, Catford, England.
