George Charles Lawrence was born in Brixham, Devon on 17 January 1915. Volunteering for service with the R.N.R. in 1935, he was mobilised in October 1939. He served on Carinthia, November 1939-June 1940, being advanced from Seaman to Acting Leading Seaman in January 1940. He was confirmed in that rank when at Drake (Devonport) January 1941 and attained the rank of Petty Officer in October 1943 when serving on Caroline. His last appointment was on Europa (Lowestoft), April 1944-October 1945, initially as a Petty Officer, latterly as a Second Hand. Lawrence was awarded the R.N.R. Long Service Medal in December 1944.

Devon’, with accompanying slip showing entitlement to four (unspecified) medals (probably not awarded the Africa Star); Gunnery History Sheet; Certificate of with associated slip; Certificate of Discharge; Order for Release from Naval Service; Customs & Excise letter re. payment of R.N.R. Retainers of £7.10.0, December 1948, with envelope; Mercantile Marine Office letter re. payment of R.N.R. Gratuity of £50, February 1949.
