Thomas Ralph Taylor was born in Somerset on 20 March 1906 and was educated at Clifton College. He was first commissioned into the Somerset Light Infantry (Supplementary Reserve) on 25 July 1931 and was promoted Lieutenant on 25 July 1934.
He was recalled during the Second World War and was employed as a Staff-Captain in the War Office, Department of Military Secretary to the Secretary of State for War. After the War Taylor served in the Army Emergency Reserve and the Territorial Army, where he served with Chigwell School C.C.F. He retired on 1 September 1972 and was granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
