O.B.E. London Gazette 2 January 1950: Commander (L), Director of Naval Electrical Department.
D.S.C. London Gazette 11 June 1946: ‘For distinguished service during the war in the Far East:- Lieutenant (Elec.) Edward Walter Smith, H.M.S. Implacable.’
The aircraft carrier Implacable took part in operations against German convoy traffic off the Norwegian West Coast, August to December 1944. In 1945 she moved to the Central Pacific where she took part in numerous air strikes against targets in Japan and her islands.
