Lieutenant Francis Arthur Ralfs, 5th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, attached 9th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers died of wounds France and Flanders 16 September 1916. He is buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery, France.

The Times, 23 October 1916 ‘Lieutenant F. A. Ralfs, Royal Fusiliers, attached Lancashire Fusiliers, died on September 16, of wounds received on 11 September. Aged 22 years, he was educated at the Imperial Service College, Windsor and on leaving obtained a position in the firm of Messrs. James Spier & Sons. On the outbreak of war he joined the Public Schools Brigade which was afterwards transferred to the Inns of Court O.T.C. from which he obtained his commission in February 1915 when he was Gazetted into the Royal Fusiliers. He was promoted Lieutenant in February and in October 1915 took out a draft of the Border Regiment to the Dardanelles. On arrival he was himself attached to the Lancashire Fusiliers at Suvla Bay. He took part in the evacuation of the Peninsular and after a few weeks spent at Mudros and Lemnos the Regiment was sent to Egypt. Here he took his share in constructing the defences of the canal. In July the Regiment was ordered to proceed to France.’
