Mexico, Spanish American Dollar, 1796 FM, Mexico, countermarked H within circular indent on obverse. Fine (£30-40)
The countermark is centrally placed on the neck of the bust of Charles IV, in the manner of the oval countermarks of the Bank of England, and it is tempting to attribute the piece to the British Isles; in fact whether it is or not is impossible to prove one way or another.
