Catuvellauni, Cunobelin, Quarter-Stater, Linear type, ear of corn dividing CAM-CVN, rev. horse prancing right, branch above, cvn below, 1.19g/12h (cf. BMC 1837, 1845; cf. VA 1927, 2017; cf. S 292-5). Well-struck and of good style, nearly extremely fine, extremely rare; apparently an unpublished variety
£700-900
Although two die duplicates of the current coin are listed in the CCI (92.0501 and 03.0534), the condition of the reverse of these specimens is such that the diagnostic ‘ladder’-style mane of the Linear type has not been noticed and they have been classified as the normal Plastic type, of which around 30 specimens are listed. The present coin clearly shows the stylistic criteria of Allen’s Linear style horse, making it the discovery coin of a hitherto unnoticed variety
