The mounted group of eight miniature dress medals worn by Lieutenant-Colonel H. E. MacFarlane, 4th Hussars, comprising: D.S.O., G.V.R., gold and enamels; M.C., G.V.R.; 1914 Star and Bar Trio, with oak leaf M.I.D.; I.G.S. 1908, 1 clasp, Malabar 1921-22; Legion of Honour, silver and enamels; Greek Order of the Redeemer, silver-gilt and enamels, mounted as worn and contained in a contemporary case, some damage to the enamels but generally very fine (8) £120-140
Lieutenant-Colonel H. E. MacFarlane, 4th Hussars (late 19th Hussars) served on the Staff during the Great War (mentioned in despatches, awarded D.S.O., M.C., Mons Trio, Legion of Honour and Order of the Redeemer. After the War he transferred to the 4th Hussars, being promoted Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel in January 1921. Later that year he was appointed Deputy Assistant Director of the Indian Auxiliary and Territorial Forces, Madras District, and was actively involved in the Moplah revolt (Medal with Malabar clasp).
