Vatican, Pilgrim’s Cross, Pope Leo XIII, 18 carat gold, reverse stamped ‘750’; accompanied by the recipient’s silver identity disc, this inscribed ‘The Very Revd. J. Canon Cotter’, good very fine (2) £220-240

John Cotter was first appointed Curate to Ballincollig parish, Cork diocese, province of Cashel, in 1860. He transferred as Curate to the Souith Parish, Cork, in 1873, and was appointed Parish Priest, Dunmanway parish, Cork diocese, in 1880; and to Kinsale parish in 1889. He continued in that parish until 1901, having been promoted to Canon in 1893. In 1902 he transferred as Parish Priest to Blackrock, Cork diocese, retaining the rank of Canon, and was further promoted to Archdeacon at Blackrock in 1905, where he remained until his retirement in 1915.
