Victory Medal (Capt. J. J. Watters) good very fine £40-50

Captain John Joseph Watters served with the Royal Munster Fusiliers between August 1917 and May 1918 when he was transferred into the Leinster Regiment; having previously served with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, York and Lancaster Regiment, Royal Irish Regiment and Durham Light Infantry.

Sold with copy of m.i.c. which gives his first theatre of war as Italy 5 December 1917; and 18 copied pages from his P.R.O. correspondence file. This mostly consisting of a lengthy and interesting report by Watters made in 1923, in which he is asking for some recognition for his gallantry in rescuing two Sergeants of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. This incident took place in Cork on the night of 23 August 1919 when he succeeded in diverting the two n.c.o’s into his house, whilst they were being hotly pursued by an angry mob of about thirty people, many of whom were shooting at them with pistols.
