Honorary Surgeon Charles Levlin Fox was born in April 1830 and enlisted into the East India Company’s Bengal Infantry in April 1845, giving his age as nineteen, when in fact he was only fifteen. The following year he transferred to the Bengal Medical Subordinate Department as a Hospital Apprentice, promoted to the rank of Assistant Apothecary and served during the Pegu Campaign and at Delhi, during the Indian Mutiny. Attained the rank of Honorary Surgeon 13 November 1875, and died at Jullundur, India, on 15 June 1914 at the age of 84.
