John George William was born on 20 January 1877 in Lambeth, London, and enlisted in London on 20 November 1895. He served in China aboard Endymion in 1900 (Medal). During the Great War he served with the Royal Marine Brigade at Dunkirk from 20 September to 2 October, 1914, and was present in the defence of Antwerp from 3rd to 9th October 1914. From 3 February 1915, he served with the M.E.F. in the Dardanelles and received a bullet wound in the left hand in action at Gallipoli on 30 April 1915. He was demobilised in March 1919 and received his Royal Fleet Reserve L.S. & G.C. Medal in July 1924. Sold with copy service papers.
