Pair: Second Lieutenant G. L. Faithfull, 256th Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers

Second Lieutenant Sidney Leigh Faithfull served in the ranks of the London Electrical Engineers and Johannesburg Mounted Rifles during the Boer war. Later in the Great War he served initially in German South West Africa, working closely with land mines, where he was employed in the removal of these from the line of route. Commissioned into the Royal Engineers for duty with the Tunnelling Companies on 25 June 1916 he proceeded to France. Second Lieutenant Faithfull died as a result of gas poisoning along with two of his men at Arras, whilst inspecting a tunnell, listening for signs of the enemy. He is buried at Maroeuil Cemetery France. Sold with copy m.i.c. and much interesting research comprising 70 copied pages from his P.R.O. correspondence file, including a report detailing the circumstances surrounding his death.
