O.B.E. London Gazette 3 June 1919: ‘For valuable services rendered in connection with the War.’

John Sterling Alston was born on 13 October 1891 and entered the Army in October 1911 as 2nd Lieutenant, K.R.R.C. He became Lieutenant on 5 August 1914, temporary Captain in October 1915, and Captain in February 1916. He served with the 1st Battalion in France and Flanders, and was wounded during the battle of the Aisne on 19 September 1914. He was wounded a second time during the night attack on the German trenches in front of the Ferme de Bois, 15/16 May 1915. He was specially employed at the War Office from October 1917 to April 1920, as General Staff Officer 3rd Grade. Sold with details extracted from the regimental history and a copy group photograph.
