B.E.M. (Military) London Gazette 1 January 1947: ‘Flight Sergeant Catherine Mary Rumsey, Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, R.A.F. Base Headquarters, Bombay. This N.C.O. is in charge of the W.A.A.F. Hostel in Bombay. There have been frequent periods when no W.A.A.F. officers were available and Flight Sergeant Rumsey has had the full responsibility for maintaining the discipline and looking after the welfare of about 180 W.A.F.F. personnel. By her continuous devotion to duty, initiative and example, she has successfully discharged this heavy responsibility, thus ensuring the welfare, happiness and esprit de corps of the W.A.A.F. personnel in Bombay.’
