Lewis Dalton alias David Gordon was born in Co. Durham. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 4th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, he attested for regular service with the Durham Light Infantry at Redcar on 21 June 1892. He served in India, February 1894-January 1900 when he transferred to the Burma Mounted Infantry Contingent for service in South Africa, January 1900-January 1902. Transferred to the Army Reserve in March 1903. With copied service papers and copied roll extract for the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry Contingent Burma Mounted Infantry.
