Malcolm Angus Campbell, a Warehouseman living in Peckham, enlisted into the Buffs on 17 September 1914, aged 28 years. He had previously served in The Royal Navy, being invalided in 1909. Serving with the 2nd Battalion he entered France on 23 February 1915. The unit, holding a position known as ‘Berlin Wood’, was attacked and Campbell was wounded. He was invalided to England on 5 May 1915 and was eventually discharged on 16 June 1916. Awarded the Silver War Badge.

Alfred Grubb lived in Folkestone and was employed as a Bootmaker. He enlisted into the 4th Battalion The Buffs T.F. on 17 September 1914. The battalion sailed for Bombay in October 1914 and on 26 July 1915 the unit was sent to Aden to suppress the Arab uprising there, taking part in the action at Al What. His entry into this theatre of war gained him the 1914-15 Star. The unit returned to India in January 1916 and he returned to England in October 1919. Living once more in Folkestone, he was awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal in 1929.

Harold Eustace Grugg, brother of the above, was born in London in 1897 and joined the 4th Battalion K.R.R.C. as a Boy Bandsman on 17 March 1903, aged 14 years. He was promoted to ‘Bandsman’ in October 1912. Still serving with the 4th Battalion he arrived home from Bombay on 18 November 1914 and was then posted to France on 20 December 1914. Lance-Corporal Grubb was posted missing, later confirmed as killed in action south of the Menin Road on 25 June 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Memorial.

Private Charles E. Snashfold, Royal Welsh Fusiliers entered Gallipoli on 1 August 1915. He subsequently transferred to the Cheshire Regiment and was awarded the Silver War Badge.

Acting Serjeant John Bourne served in the 4th Battalion The Buffs, gaining his 1914-15 Star for service in Aden. He later transferred to the Royal Defence Corps.
