The Walsh Construction Co was the contractor that built most of the US military facilities in Trinidad during World War II. These bases, allowed through the 1940 Destroyers for Bases Agreement, included Waller Field Air Base and Carlson Field Air Base as well as the main highway and others. The Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture has long been incorporated with the University College of the West Indies
