Montserrat, ST PETER, Vue Pointe Hotel, uniface brass, montserrat west indies around v.p.h., 22mm, 5.38g. Very fine and very rare; apparently only two known £30-50

Provenance: Bt June 2006.

The Vue Pointe Hotel, built by Michael Osborne and his son Cedric, was opened in December 1961. These checks were used to operate lights for a tennis court until these lights, and much of the hotel, were wrecked by Hurricane Hugo in September 1989. Although rebuilt by 1994, the eruption of Mt Soufrière in 1995 and the island migration necessary following that disaster caused the hotel to relocate several times in subsequent years and finally close in 2008
