Auction Catalogue
Miscellaneous, Uncertain attribution, England, George II, Halfpenny [1746-54], obv. countermarked st:p. raised within a rectangular indent with rounded ends, 7.36g (Zay 63; cf. Howland Wood p.112; cf. Mazard 94). Coin worn smooth, countermark fine or better £20-30
Provenance: H.D. Gibbs Collection, Hans Schulman Auction (New York), 18-19 March 1966, lot 1821.
This and the following lot are attributed to the town of St Pierre, Martinique; if that is the correct location (and these pieces do occur in commerce in England) it is likely this is a private issue of some kind, perhaps used for lighterage from ship to shore
