George Hocking was serving in the S.S.
San Ubaldo, a tanker of the Eagle Oil and Shipping Company’s fleet, at the time of being recommended for his B.E.M., which distinction was presented to him at a Buckingham Palace investiture held on 23 October 1945.

Requisitioned by the Admiralty as a Fleet oiler, the
San Ubaldo was employed in the Channel and off Normandy.
