Pair: Private J. Spink, 78th Highlanders
India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Persia (J. Spinck, 78th Highlanders) correctly impressed naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Defence of Lucknow (2801 Pte. J. Spink. 78/Foot) officially engraved later issue circa 1880, together with a fine original portrait photograph of the recipient wearing his medals by A. C. Jervis, of Beccles, contact marks and edge bruising, otherwise nearly very fine (2) £1200-1500
Spink’s original issue Indian Mutiny medal was sold in these rooms on 7 December 2005. The pair now offered is sold by order of the recipient’s great, great grandson.
2801 Private James Spink, 78th Highlanders, a member of the 1st Relief Force, was severely wounded in the attack on the Phillip Garden Battery, 2 October 1857. He was discharged on 2 September 1858.
