Henry Guy was born in Dorset on 10 December 1837. He entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 1st Class on H.M.S. Implacable on 3 February 1856, being advanced to Ordinary Seaman 2nd Class in November the same year. He served on H.M.S. Assistance, April 1857-July 1860, seeing service in China and being advanced to Able Seaman in October 1859. Guy was promoted to Leading Seaman in April 1864 when on H.M.S. Edgar and 2nd Captain of the Main Top in December 1865 when on H.M.S. Excellent. Then on H.M.S. Nymphe he was further advanced to Gunner’s Mate. He was awarded his pension, long service medal and gratuity on 4 November 1873. With copied service papers and research.
