William Way was Navigating Lieutenant aboard the Himalaya in the Ashantee campaign and held the same position aboard the Orontes in the Egypt campaign of 1882. He later served in the military operations near Suakin during 1884. He was awarded the M.V.O. in August 1903 as Commander of H.M.S. Vivid during King Edward VII’s visit to Ireland.
