Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Tel-El-Kebir (568 Pte. J. Black, 2/Sea. Highrs.); Khedive’s Star, 1882, unnamed, edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine (2) £160-200

John Black was born in Buckie, Banffshire, Scotland. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the Aberdeen Militia, he attested for the 58th Brigade at Aberdeen on 7 July 1880, aged 20 years. He was posted to the 72nd Regiment/Seaforth Highlanders in December 1880. He served in Egypt and the East Indies, December 1880-November 1890, for which he was awarded the above two medals and the I.G.S. Medal with clasp for ‘Hazara 1888’ (this not with lot). Black was transferred to the Army Reserve in July 1892 and discharged in July 1896. With copied service papers.
