John ‘Ned’ Kelly was a Section Commander with 4 Platoon, B Coy, 3 Para, in the Falklands, where he was severely wounded by gunshot during the action on Mount Longdon in which his Platoon Sergeant, Ian McKay, was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross. He is mentioned by name in several publications including Above All Courage, by Max Arthur: ‘Corporal Ned Kelly, who’d been shot in the back and had his intestines hanging out, struggling down the hill towards us ...Corporal Kelly, who was badly hurt, but he said he’d walk, and he did, totally unbelievable.’
