Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (E. Laws, 1st Rifle Brigade) pierced with ring suspension, nearly very fine £60-80

Edward Laws was born in the Parish of Lynn, Norfolk. A Labourer by occupation he attested for the Rifle Brigade at Westminster on 23 August 1850, aged 18 years. He deserted May/June 1853 and was tried by District Court Martial and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour (seven months subsequently remitted). With the regiment he landed in the Crimea on 14 September 1854. On 21 November 1855 he suffered a wound when a rifle ball took off the middle finger of his left hand. For his services in the war he was awarded the Crimea Medal with four clasps and the Turkish Crimea Medal. Laws was discharged on 1 October 1856 as being totally unfit for further service - as a result of his wound and an unrelated medical condition. With copied discharge papers.
