Archibald Francis Campbell-Johnston appointed 2nd Lieutenant, 3rd Foot, 21 June 1879. Served in Natal during the Zulu War. Promoted to Lieutenant, 24 October 1880 and Captain, 1 July 1887. Later appointed Adjutant of the 1st Volunteer Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment.
