With original, worn and slightly damaged, certificate of award, mounted on card; together with two paper cuttings, each giving an account of the rescue. One reading:

‘A plucky rescue from drowning in the river Mersey, near Warrington, was on Monday morning last effected by Captain W. Tindall Bell, manager of the works of Messrs. Crosfield and Sons. A workman fell off the quay into the river, and when his cries attracted the attention of Captain Bell he had been carried by a strong tide a hundred yards away. Captain Bell, divesting himself of his coat and waistcoat jumped into the water, swam to the man, and held him up until the pair were picked up by a boat and landed at the ferry. Captain Bell, who lives in Stockton Heath, is a former well-known resident of New Brighton, having been educated at New Brighton High School and later at Liscard High School. His mother now resides in Haydock-road, Liscard, being an old resident of the borough of over thirty years standing. Captain Bell has only just returned from Panama, after having been in command of the R.M.S. Sanuma.’
