Theodore Whittington entered the Medical Department of King’s College, London, in October 1904, having been awarded a Warneford Entrance Scholarship. In 1909 he was awarded the Todd Prize for Clinical Medicine and passed the M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. He was House Surgeon and later, House Physician in 1910. During the time he was in residence at King’s College Hospital he acted as Ophthalmic House Surgeon. In 1911 Whittington passed the M.B., B.S. From 1911 to 1914 he was Clinical Assistant in the Ophthalmic Department at King’s. From 1914 to 1917 he served as a Captain in the R.A.M.C. and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 12 September 1914. Attached to the Essex Regiment, he was listed as wounded and was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 15 June 1916). In 1918 he was appointed Ophthalmologist to the General Military Hospital, Colchester and later to the 4th London General Hospital. After the war he returned to the Ophthalmic Department at King’s and in 1930 he was appointed Chief Assistant. With copied research.
