Alan William Carleton was born on 6 January 1890. Educated at Calcutta and University College, London. M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. Lond. 1922; D.P.H. 1923. With copied research.

Hugh Thomas McWilliams was born in Belfast on 3 May 1899. Educated at the National University of Ireland, M.B., B.Ch., B.A.O. 1922. Medical Officer, Irish Free State Army, February 1923-January 1929. Appointed a Lieutenant in the Indian Medical Service on 4 February 1929 and advanced to Captain in February 1932; Major in 1944 and Lieutenant-Colonel in 1951. With copied research.
