David Wyse was born in Fifeshire, Scotland. A Rancher by occupation, he enlisted into Lord Strathcona’s Horse at Regina on 7 February 1900, aged 30 years. He served with them in South Africa for a year, after which he volunteered for service with the 113th Company Imperial Yeomanry (Lovats Scouts). After the war Wyse received a grant of land and remained in South Africa. In the Great War he served with the South African Miscellaneous Trades Company.
