Maxwell John Livingstone-Learmonth was born on 14 October 1894, the son of Semerville Reid Livingstone-Learmonth, J.P. He was educated at Repton. He joined the Irish Guards in 1914 and entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. He was invalided to England on 12 September 1914 due to a broken blood vessel to the head. In November 1914 he was reported fit for light duty at home. In February 1916 he was appointed A.D.C. to the Governor of Ceylon, Sir John Anderson, G.C.M.G., K.C.B., however, in November the same year he left this position and returned to England, citing ‘climate not suitable, returned on medical advice’. He was subsequently placed on Half Pay due to his medical unfitness. Livingstone-Learmonth made an application for his medals in June 1924. Captain Livingstone-Learmonth died on 1 October 1971.
