Pair: Private E. G. McDowall, 9th (Glasgow Highlanders) Battalion Highland Light Infantry

1914 Star (3042 Pte. E. McDowall, 9/High. L.I.); Memorial Plaque (Edward Gillies MacDowall) note slight variation in name, together with a named Commemorative Scroll, this together with the plaque contained within a 54 x 27cm. glazed wooden frame, good very fine and better (2) £140-180

Edward Gillies MacDowall was born in Glasgow. Before the war he was employed as an Accountant with Messrs. Kerr, Andersons and MacLeod, of West George Street, Glasgow. Enlisting into the Glasgow Highlanders, he entered into the France/Flanders theatre of war on 5 November 1914. Serving with the 9th (Glasgow Highlanders) Battalion Highland Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 17 May 1915. He was buried in Brown’s Road Military Cemetery, Festubert. He was the son of Charles and Helen MacDowall of Hillpark, Glasgow.

His father’s and brothers medals were sold as lot 951 in D.N.W. 14 September 2012.
