A fine long service group of nine awarded to Major Percy Oswald Sinden, Royal Army Medical Corps, a prisoner of war of the Japanese

Sinden, R.A.M.C.); General Service 1918-62, E.II.R., 1 clasp, Malaya (Major, R.A.M.C.); Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 3rd issue, Regular Army (7250091 Sjt., R.A.M.C.); Army Meritorious Service Medal, G.VI.R., ‘Fid.Def .’ (7250091 W.O. Cl. 1, R.A.M.C.) mounted court style as worn, good very fine and better (10) £800-1000

The military service of Percy Oswald Sinden with the R.A.M.C. spanned the years of the Great War, 1914-18, to the 1950’s and service in Korea and Malaya. After service in the ranks of the R.A.M.C. he was appointed a Quartermaster in August 1940 and was commissioned a Captain in January 1941. During the Second World War his military service in the Far East ended with his capture by the Japanese. He remained a prisoner-of-war until the end of hostilities. Sinden attained the rank of Major in September 1948. He was awarded the M.S.M. by Army Order 82 of June 1952.

With the recipient’s 1897 patern infantry officers’ sword, with ‘G.VI.R.’ monogram guard and blade, this latter also inscribed, ‘P. O. Sinden from his service friends 10th Aug. 1940’, complete with leather cased scabbard and leather carrying case.

Together with a named Certificate of Enlistment for those recruited in Hastings by Hon. Lieutenant-Colonel Whittle; a named Certificate of Gratitude and Thanks from the townspeople of Hastings and St. Leonards for service in the Great War; a Commission Document of appointment to Captain, 1 January 1951; and a Buckingham Palace letter welcoming home former prisoners of war of the Japanese.
