Private Robert Gardner, 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 15 August 1914. Attaining the rank of Serjeant, he was awarded the M.M. for bravery in the field. He re-enlisted in August 1919 and saw service in Mesopotamia and India. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1926.
