William Ingram Baker was born in and enlisted at Stockton-on-Tees. He initially served in the York and Lancaster Regiment. As a Lance-Corporal serving with the 70th Company Machine Gun Corps, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 7 June 1917, aged 25 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Baker was the son of Thomas and Sarah Baker, of 15 Garabaldi Street, Stockton-on-Tees.
