Evan Edgar Kivell was born in Montgomery, Saskatchewan, on 26 November 1896. A Farmer by occupation, he enlisted in the 10th Canadian Mounted Rifles in December 1914, but was serving in the Canadian Light Horse when awarded the M.M. (London Gazette 13 March 1919 refers), in addition to the Belgian Croix de Guerre. He was wounded by shrapnel in the hip on 4 September 1918; sold with copied service papers.
