Donald MacDonald was born in Argyllshire, Scotland, on 25 October 1891. A Hospital Orderly by occupation, he enlisted into the 89th (Alberta) Battalion at Calgary in December 1915. Subsequently transferred to the 7th (1st British Columbia) Battalion, he was wounded in action at the battle of Vimy Ridge on 9 April 1917 and, having rejoined his unit, was killed in action at the battle of Hill 70 during the Third Battle of Ypres on 15 August 1917. He was buried in the Loos British Cemetery. MacDonald was the son of Mrs. Isa MacDonald, of The Gardens, Drimnin, Oban, Scotland; sold with a copied extract from The Oban Times, 15 September 1917, together with copied service papers.
