A Canadian Memorial Cross awarded in remembrance of Private W. A. Barrow, 21st (Eastern Ontario) Battalion, who died of wounds on 27 September 1918

Welsh-born William Augustus Barrow enlisted into the 168th (Oxfords) Battalion at Ingersoll, Ontario in January 1916, but was serving with the 21st (Eastern Ontario) Battalion when he died of wounds on 27 September 1918. The official casualty report states:

‘During operations in the vicinity of Villers-les-Cagnicourt on 26 September 1918, this soldier was severely wounded in the arm, back and hip, by the explosion of an enemy shell at the entrance of his dug-out. He was evacuated to No. 32 Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, where he succumbed to his wounds the next day’.

Buried in the Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, he was the son of Fred A. and Annie M. Barrow, of Wellington Street, Ingersoll; sold with copied service papers.
