John Bell was born in Whitehaven, England, on 6 November 1896. A Farmer by occupation, he enlisted into the 34th Battalion at Guelph in March 1915, but was afterwards posted to the 31st (Alberta) Battalion out in France. Killed in action during the battle of Flers-Courcelette on 15 September 1916, he has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial; sold with copied service papers and war diary extracts.
