Alfred Hinds was born and lived at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. He died of wounds in France and Flanders on 27 July 1916, received earlier that day during the Battle of Delville Wood. It was during this action that Sergeant Alfred Gill, also of the 1st Battalion, K.R.R.C. gained the award of the Victoria Cross.
