William Richard Halfacre was born in Thatcham, Berkshire. He enlisted into the Territorial Army on 1 April 1908, at the age of 29, having previously served in the 1st Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps. On 5 November 1914 he went with the 9th Battalion, London Regiment to France, serving with them until 28 April 1916 when he was discharged due to sickness. He was Mentioned in Despatches
(London Gazette 31 May 1915) and awarded the Military Medal, both distinctions being for the Capture of Hill 60. Sold with further research detail.
