Francis Austen Jeans was Surgeon of Coquette during the Egyptian War of 1882 (Egyptian Medal, Khedive’s Bronze Star), and served during the naval and military operations in the Eastern Soudan, at Suakin, 1884-85 (Suakin clasp). He was appointed Staff Surgeon in March 1889; Fleet Surgeon, May 1894; Deputy Inspector-General of Hospitals and Fleets (Retired), 27 October 1908.
