Newcastle-upon-Tyne Volunteer Infantry, an extremely fine and rare officer’s oval gilt engraved shoulder belt plate c1794-1801 and/or 1803-1808, the large convex plate bears the crest from the Arms of the town, issuant from a tower a demi-lion rampant regardant holding a pennant, to the left and right the script capitals ‘N’ and ‘V’, around the lower edge ‘Fortiter Defendit Triumphans’ and laurel sprays around the top edge, one hook two studs to the reverse; extremely fine condition £500-700
