Bruce Leslie Carnie was born in Gravesend, Kent, in October 1923, and first went to sea as an Apprentice in the S.S. Ettrickbank in September 1941, and ended the War as 2nd Mate of the Korailbank, having joined her in November 1943. Remaining in the Merchant Navy, he gained his Master’s Certificate and finally came ashore in the late 1960s. And he claimed his 1939-45 War campaign medals after moving to New Guinea.
H. M. Carnie received his Danish Medal of Freedom on 5 May 1946, but no further information is known, other than the fact he may have been entitled to the O.B.E.
