Richard James Hewitt was employed as a 2nd Hand in the trawler Oldham at the time of winning his Sea Gallantry Medal, in bronze, on 26 January 1910. On that occasion, in company with another deck hand from the Oldham, he manned a boat that rescued four men from the sinking Hull trawler Gothic; sold with further details.
