Walter Owen Inglis, who was born in Liverpool in 1863, was serving as a Steward aboard the R.M.S. Republic at the time of her ill-fated voyage from New York in January 1909. Having then served in the Mercantile Marine in the Great War, he was still similarly employed as a Night Watchman as late as 1929.

Walter Edward Inglis served in the 10th Battalion, Liverpool Regiment, and is believed to have been wounded in 1916, following which he transferred to the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and thence to the Royal Defence Corps; sold with copied portrait photograph in uniform.
