D.S.M London Gazette 1 January 1946.

Jack Alfred Edmeads, who was born at Gravesend in July 1909, was decorated for his services in the escort carrier H.M.S.
Searcher, which ship he appears to have joined in January 1943, after being placed in the Merchant Navy Reserve Pool and re-assigned as Naval Auxiliary Personnel. The Searcher served on the Atlantic convoy run, in addition to participating in “Operation Tungsten”, the Fleet Air Arm’s strike against the Tirpitz, and lending valuable support during the South of France landings in August 1944. Her aircraft also contributed to the destruction of the U-711 off Norway in May 1945, the last such victim claimed by the Fleet Air Arm in the War.

Edmeads came ashore in March 1953; sold with a quantity of research.
